Start With Hello Week 2023

We are committed to being Upstanders.

An upstander is someone who is kind, inclusive, and empathetic. 
An upstander is someone who greets everyone with a simple, "Hello."
An upstander is someone who makes sure everyone has a place to belong.
An upstander is someone who speaks up for others.
An upstander is someone who reaches out to those who need it most.

The Hornet Academy is committed to being Upstanders.

During the week of September 19th-September 23rd, we are going to engage our scholars in Daily Activities related to being and upholding the values of an Upstander.

9/21: Wear Green Wednesday (Wear Green Shirts)
9/22: Trusted Adult Thursday
9/23: Moving Forward Fri-Yay!

We will use this week to not only commit ourselves to being Upstanders, but to also recognize and celebrate kindness, empathy, and inclusivity amongst our school community and beyond.

Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Based in Newtown, Connecticut, our intent is to honor all victims of gun violence by turning our tragedy into a moment of transformation. By empowering youth to “know the signs” and uniting all people who value the protection of children, we can take meaningful actions in schools, homes, and communities to prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life.
