“THE HHS HORNET ACADEMY IS RAISING THE BAR IN ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS & THE ARTS!”
Statistically, more students fail the 9th grade than any other grade level, which can often lead to freshman drop outs. Over one third of high school dropouts occur in the ninth grade. In Hillside’s 2011-12 Freshman class, 85% of the students were promoted to the 10th grade. Less than 50 of the students failed, and the number of suspensions were reduced. The 2011-12 class also earned a 96% attendance rate, they helped HHS post the highest test scores in school history. In the 2012-13 Freshman Class, 95% of the class was promoted and less than 20 students failed the ninth grade. Suspension rates reduced from the previous year. The attendance rate landed at 95% and this is while 50% of the students took Honors, AP, and/or IB courses. The following year (2013-14), 84% of the students were promoted. Ninety-three of them started at Hillside High School on day one of the school year. Less than 50 of the ninth grade class failed. There was a reduction in the disciplinary referrals and suspensions and a 92% attendance rate. Fifty-two percent of that ninth grade class took at least one Honors, AP, or MYP course.
